Rubric

I created a rubric using Rubistar. I have not used this site before, so I created an account, which was very easy, and then began to create a rubric. The site was very user friendly and it took very little time. I liked that I was able to use both boiler plate text that was in the rubric and also create my own text and measurements. I did both. After completing the rubric I saved it at the site. I also used Jing to take a screen shot and save that image at the Screencast website. Then I went back onto Rubistar and saved the Rubric as an excel spreadsheet onto my hard drive. From there I was able to upload it into Google Drive and had the upload converted to a Google document. I liked this assignment because it was a good example of how to pull together some of the individual lessons we have had into a practical example of how we would use what we have learned in our everyday life as a teacher.

To view what I created you can see the Google Docs version: Possible Selves Rubric

In this lesson I learned about a new website that allows me to create assignment rubrics quickly and easily. I can then share my rubric in a number of different ways, as I outlined above. This was a fast and easy way to make a rubric. Rubrics are a great tool for teachers because they give the student a clear expectation for the work that is needed. The student can see the expectations for each grade.

This rubric is for a project presentation that my students must complete as the assessment for this portion of my class. I believe in alternative assessments besides a test. This one is not only a fun activity for the students; it allows me to evaluate how much of the material they have been able to apply to themselves. I am also a big believer in presentations, since my class focuses on students getting employment. A task that requires students to talk to people about themselves in a positive way.

The ISTE NETS T standards that are applied to this lesson for me was modeling digital age work. Using Rubistar is a good example of being an innovative teacher that is comfortable with new technologies. Also, this lesson gave me an easy to use digital tool that will help me communicate relevant information to both students and parents using a digital age format that can easily be shared with others.
