Power Point and Drop Box

Presentations are what I am all about! I can't tell you how crazy I go watching presentations done with Power Point with no thought to the audience! I actually teach presentation skills and presentation guidelines to my students. I used to teach it many moons ago when Power Point and Windows were new. I feel that with the ease of use of software, training has been reduced. We are all self taught. But being self taught on how to click on options within a software package is not the same as understanding what determines a good presentation. With that being said, for this lesson I took an old presentation that I have used in  the past and applied the format seen in our examples, less words, more pictures. I then created an account with Drop Box and loaded my updated power point into a shared folder. Here it is My Power Point.

In this lesson I learned to create a drop box account. I also paid attention to the articles I read and thought about how to update a presentation I have to use more pictures and less text. I did put in effects, hopefully not too many. When my students do their first presentations with me they are often the opposite of boring! Sometimes they hurt my eyes and we have to go over how much is too much. They love animation. But, as I often remind them, their brains work differently than us old folks!

I already teach presentation in my class through out the year as we are learning other material, so I use much of what this lesson was intended to teach us. However, I do not use drop box. Or rather, I did not use drop box. I will definitely teach this to my students. Another tool to add to my list. As we move toward a world where information is at our finger tips, and now OUR personal information is at our fingertips and not tied to a device, it is important to teach all of this to our students. It is so important for their future endeavors.

For my explanation of how the standards apply to me and this lesson, I am reiterating what I posted from an earlier lesson: The use of this tool meets ISTE-NETS-T’s standards of designing and developing digital age learning experiences and modeling digital age work and learning. If I use something in my lessons, I also always take time to demonstrate the tool to the students. I try to do this in my lessons so that students can see an example of how a technology would be useful to them.
