Resume

Although my department uses Goggle Docs for a few documents that we need to share between schools, prior to the assignment I had only entered data into existing documents rather than create my own. It was a positive learning experience. I redid my resume and made it briefer to include all of the positions I have had. I originally tried doing this in Goggle Docs, but it seemed there was lag time between the key strokes on my keyboard and the processing on the Google site. I became frustrated and took my document into Word. I completed the document in word and then pasted each section in to the Goggle Docs template. So, I am not ready to enter into the cloud and leave my own hard drive behind quit yet.
However, one of the most important projects I work on with my students is writing a resume. One lesson I will take away from this exercise is that here is an easy free way for my students to take the resumes that they spend so much time completing in the classroom with them wherever they go. There is no need for a flash drive, and no way for the student to lose the work. Well, they can still lose it, but it is harder to lose. Also, they can access from any computer with no concerns about system or software compatibility.
For me this lesson relates to the ISTE NETS T standard of Model Digital Age and Learning by giving me a technology that I can incorporate into my current lessons. In this lesson I was able to find a new tool to use directly in my teaching and my role as transition teacher. I will be able to take my current method of teaching resume writing and add a new technology into the lessons. I will be able to model this new technology for my students and give them a real life use for the technology in their resume projects.
