I learned that
Jing is a computer Software program that allows me to share annotated visual artifacts with other people on the internet. Jing allowed me to create
an image of a drawing that a student created for class. When I have any
image up on my screen I can use Jing to capture it and save it on my hard drive.
I can use the features of Jing (text, shape and arrow tools) to annotate the
file I have created. Once it's created I can upload it to the Screen Cast website. I can then provide a link in my blog so that others can use it. The software also lets me
create videos that can be placed on the Jing website.
I can use this feature in my Career Pathways course. One of the
best uses of Jing for me would be the ability to create a file with directions
for what needs to be done outside of the classroom or as review for students
for material I have covered in class. The image that I saved on Jing is an
example of a project that the students must complete. Jing gives me the ability
to have the students see the image I demonstrated in class but with additional
notes on it to remind them what goes into each piece of the project they are
creating. So they have an example to go by as well as directions all on one
easy to view page. Here is my Jing Graphic
The ISTE NETS T standard applied in this lesson for me was that I was able to Model Digital Age Work and Learning. Jing gives me the ability to take an image that I present in class, annotate it and place it on the web for students and parents to use as a reference when completing the assignment outside of class. So, I am using this software and the screen cast website to communicate class information in an effective manner to both students and parents in a "digital age" format.
